Driving 90 miles from Oklahoma City for a day visit to Tonkawa alone is inefficient; you'll exhaust the town's offerings in three hours.
If you are visiting the region for the Salt Plains, staying in Tonkawa saves an hour of driving versus returning to Oklahoma City, allowing you to maximize refuge time. That's the genuine value proposition. Otherwise, Ponca City 25 miles south offers more to do and better lodging options within similar driving distance of major attractions.
